A reading with full cast of the Rupert Holmes / Charles Strouse (Annie) / Lee Adams (Bye Bye, Birdie) musical based on Paddy Chayevsky's Academy Award-winning motion picture Marty will be performed before an invited audience under the auspices of The Manhattan Theatre Club. John C. Reilly, who starred in the record-breaking run of the musical at Boston's Huntington Theatre will again portray Marty and will be joined by Drama Desk Award-winning Carolee Carmello, who also starred in Rupert Holmes' Emmy Award-winning TV series Remember WENN. "Rupert Holmes Day"
in White Plains

At a recent surprise birthday party for Rupert, on the stage of the White Plains Performing Arts Center, attended by a diverse range of friends from Rupert’s stage plays, TV series, and recording career, White Plains Mayor Joseph M. Delfino officially proclaimed the date “Rupert Holmes Day.” Presented with the framed formal proclamation by Commissioner of Planning Susan Habel, Rupert announced that everything sold in the city would be half price for the rest of the evening. —TE

Bacon, Firth, Lohman in Film of Holmes' 1st Novel

Entertainment trade paper "Variety" reports that Kevin Bacon (Mystic River), Colin Firth (Bridget Jones's Diary), and Alison Lohman (White Oleander & Big Fish) have been signed to play the leads in Academy Award-nominated Atom Egoyan's film adaptation of Rupert Holmes' critically-acclaimed novel Where The Truth Lies. Principal photography is scheduled to begin August 30, 2004 in Toronto, London and Los Angeles.

"Gracie" Turns 555,
Wins Best Play 2004

On August 12, Say Goodnight Gracie (winner of the National Broadway Theatre Award for Best Play 2004 from the League of American Theatres and Producers and a Best Play Tony nomination for Rupert Holmes) celebrated its 555th performance since opening on Broadway. Gracie is currently residing at the Denver Center for the Peforming Arts; this fall will mark the debut of M*A*S*H star Jamie Farr
