Barbra Streisand
In addition to the discograpy below detailing Rupert Holmes' numerous collaborations with Barbra Streisand, there are several unattributed or unreleased recordings that will be of interest to fans of both these talents.
Two of Rupert's most memorable arrangements for Barbra are, sadly, uncredited. The haunting finale to her landmark Just For The Record CD, in which a demo recording of "You'll Never Know," made by the thirteen-year-old Miss Streisand with only a piano accompaniment evolves into a fully-orchestrated arrangement for young Barbra and adult Barbra, was arranged, conducted, and conceived by Rupert. Her richly sensual rendition of "Warm All Over" on the same CD was likewise arranged and conducted by our Mr. Holmes.
During this same series of recording sessions Rupert and Barbra also recorded a number of Broadway classics that have yet to be released, including "A Funny Thing Happened On My Way To Love" from Barbra's first Broadway show I Can Get It For You Wholesale, "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide, "How Are Things In Glocca Morra/The Heather On The Hill" (medley) from Finian's Rainbow and Brigadoon, "On My Own" from Les Misarables and "Moonfall" from Rupert's Tony Award winning musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Other "lost" recordings (hopefully not forever) are those made for Barbra's classic Lazy Afternoon album. These include a Rupert Holmes song called "Everything" (which is a completely different song than Rupert's composition with the same title in the movie A Star Is Born), a Holmes orchestration of "A Child Is Born" (as opposed to the LP's version which is solely Barbra with Rupert on piano), and Holmes' arrangement of Ed Kleban's "Better."
Hopefully, some or all the above recordings will be heard someday.
