DEPAUW THEATRE

Former Seasons

2004-2005

Sept. 24, 25, 26 and Oct. 1, 2

Directed by Andrew Hayes

This wildly warm-hearted musical kicks off with the Music Hall Royale (a hilariously loony Victorian musical troupe) preparing to put on its flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery. But it’s the story of the players that is most intriguing.  John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster is madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper's nephew, young Edwin Drood. And our title character mysteriously disappears one stormy Christmas Eve.  Has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit?  The giddy playfulness of this play-within-a-play evolves into one of Drood’s most talked-about features:  the audience votes on the solution to Drood’s disappearance as prelude to a most unusual and entertaining finale!

This production contains sexual innuendo and is otherwise suitable for all ages.
