SAY GOODNIGHT GRACIE wins 2004 National Broadway Theatre Award for BEST PLAY!

May 11, 2004 @ 01:37:31 PM

Producers, presenters, and other key players in the national touring Broadway community gathered at New York's Westin Hotel on May 10 and bestowed the coveted award of BEST PLAY to the celebrated Broadway and now touring production of “Say Goodnight Gracie” starring Frank Gorshin as part of the 2004 National Broadway Theatre Awards. “Say Goodnight Gracie,” is penned by Tony and Emmy Award-winning writer Rupert Holmes, staged by veteran Tony-nominated director John Tillinger and also features the acclaimed actress Didi Conn’s estimable talents as the singular voice of Gracie Allen. The production was nominated for a 2003 Tony Award© for Best Play and Mr. Gorshin won a 2003 Outer Critics Circle Award for his outstanding performance.

The National Broadway Theater Awards are the only awards that recognize achievement in touring Broadway productions. They were founded by the League of American Theatres and Producers in 2000.

In Say Goodnight Gracie, theater audiences take a guided tour through an American century told through the eyes of George Burns who savored each day from his impoverished youth on the lower East side, to his career in Vaudeville, his marriage to Gracie Allen, their rise to success on stage, screen, radio and TV, and finally George’s “second time around”.

“Say Goodnight Gracie” will begin an 8 week engagement at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ Stage Theatre and then continue next October for a second year of touring with a 30 city schedule.
