W.V.H.S. Drama Club to perform “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”

The Drama Club is proud to present the Warwick premiere of the hit Broadway musical, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”

“Drood,” based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens, brings its audience back to London in 1892 for the murder of Edwin Drood. At each performance of this unique musical, the audience will decide who the murderer and detective are, giving each performance a distinctly different ending.

“Drood” will be performed on Friday, March 17th at 8pm, and on Saturday, March 18th, at 1pm and 8pm. Tickets may be ordered in advance by calling 987-3050, voicemail box #4100, beginning Monday, February 27th.

WARWICK VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
RECEIVES EMPIRE STATE SILVER AWARD

The Warwick Valley Central School District has been awarded the Empire State Silver award by Empire State Advantage, Inc. (ESA).

In an effort to improve not only upon student achievement, but also their own, Warwick’s district administrators sought the expertise of ESA – a group of leaders from an array of Fortune 500 companies. ESA is a public/private partnership formed to help build economic competitiveness and improve the quality of life within New York State. The ESA Excellence at Work program provides a process for developing, assessing and recognizing the effectiveness of an organization’s management system. ESA provides recommendations for improvement in management and quality systems to private businesses, the healthcare industry, government organizations, non-profit groups and the education community.

After implementation of the ESA-designed “Model for Excellence” – a framework for leading an organization based on best practices and success factors – Warwick district administrators hosted an ESA team of reviewers in December. This team conducted an intensive on-site evaluation of the district’s management and operations. It is unusual for an organization to receive an award the first time out, so Superintendent Dr. Joseph L. Natale was pleasantly surprised a few weeks later to learn that the Warwick Valley Central School District had been recommended for a Silver award. Components of the Model for Excellence on which the district was judged include good leadership, student focus, involved and capable faculty and staff, focus on the future, community responsibility, ethics and operational excellence.

Commenting on the reasons for recommending the Empire State Silver award for the Warwick Valley Central School District, ESA Executive Director George Hansen had this to say: “Our review team was very impressed by the administration and staff of the Warwick Valley Central School District. Under the motto of ‘From Good to Great,’ the district’s leaders have made a commitment to reaching and maintaining high levels of student achievement. They have developed a strategic plan to reach their goals and engaged people throughout the district in implementing this plan. They have made many innovative improvements to instructional programs and services across the district. They have worked to increase the effectiveness of the district and its people and maintained a favorable cost structure when compared to other school districts. We congratulate the people of the district for their commitment to excellence and wish them well in their continuing journey of improvement.”

Hansen goes on to say, “The goal of the Empire State Advantage is to help New York State-based organizations to achieve excellence so that they can increase their contributions to both the quality of life and the business competitiveness in their communities. We are happy to see that the Warwick Valley Central School District is making a significant contribution toward reaching this goal.”
